The first season of the Pokemon animated series introduced viewers to many mysterious places and strange events. One such place is the ancient city of Poku00e9mopolis, located in the Kanto region. It is not the only mysterious place of ancient civilizations. In later seasons of the anime we are still introduced to Pokelantis, a settlement based on the popular Atlantis.
Description of Indigo League episode 74 – Ancient city of Poku00e9mopolis
Before the Pokemon League competition, Ash decided to train together with Brock. Pikachu and Vulpix face each other, unfortunately the fight does not last long because it is interrupted by an old acquaintance – JIgglypuff. To avoid hitting him, the Poku00e9mon directed their attacks to a nearby slope, which led to a huge explosion. The clouds of smoke drew the attention of archaeologists stationed nearby. Our heroes accidentally discovered the ruins of a temple. Brock finds a mysterious artifact under the stones, which Eve immediately takes away from him, and together with the rest of the archaeologists discuss the find. Everything is closely watched from above by the Team Rocket.
At the camp, Ash, Brock and Misty look at the scientists’ findings, including a Psyduck figurine. Misty tells the story of Pokemopolis, an ancient city that disappeared due to great storms. After a while, the professor joins them, carrying another artifact found near the first discovery. During the conversation, Eve waves the spoon brought by the professor and Pikachu notices that it affects the second artifact. After a while, she brings a stone tablet and explains to the heroes the message written on it, it sounds like this:
Beware of two symbols of destruction, the shadow of the black prophecy will lash out at the prisoner of the underground urn. The mysterious city will survive until night consumes it. The darkness waits to return to earth, but no man knows the truth of the power that can carry him perhaps to the world of shadows.
At night, the artifacts begin to affect each other. At the same moment Jessie, James and Meowth try to loot the temples to get incredibly rich. Jessie sends Arbok to dig into the ruins and bring back the most valuable thing he can find. After a while, he returns with another ancient object, but it’s not what Team R expected. The strange object engulfs Arbok and immobilizes the villains. The invisible creature leaves behind only huge footprints in the ground. In the morning, the heroes find footprints in front of the temple. The professor and archaeologists are absorbed by the black object.
Ash and his friends escape to the trailer. To their eyes appears a huge Gengar covered with strange signs. The sky over Kanto is shrouded in darkness, Ash along with Brock want to stop Gengar from taking down the nearest town, but they are unable to do anything. A huge Alakazam emerges from the combined ancient objects in the trailer. It is also covered all over with mysterious symbols.
A fight ensues between the ancient Pokemon, which is a huge threat to everyone. Ash tries to catch them, but the Pokeballs are destroyed and the heroes are immobilized. The only hope in Pikachu, he saves everyone with an electric shock. The heroes try to win with the help of Jigglypuff, who appears on the scene. Unfortunately, his concert is interrupted. His music awakens the ancient Jigglypuff, also covered with mysterious symbols. He puts everyone to sleep and, like the smaller version, gets upset when everyone falls asleep. He pulls out a paintbrush and paints their faces.
In the morning when everyone wakes up, they notice that the big Poku00e9mon have disappeared and everyone absorbed by Gengar has regained their freedom.Eve will further explore the mysteries of the lost city with the help of these strange finds.Explaining to the heroes that the object they found was probably an ancient version of a Pokeball.
What is Pokemopolis?
Pokemopolis is an ancient city located in the Kanto region.It was destroyed by powerful storms that were probably caused by Alakazam fighting Gengar. Unfortunately, like many other mysteries from the first season of the anime, this one is also abandoned and we don’t get any more eager information about the place. It doesn’t appear again in the series, the games or the card game. Although another ancient civilization and similar mysterious stone tablets appear in the series. Probably this motif will never return, although to this day curiosities from the first season of the series arouse the curiosity of fans around the world.
